Tucked above a garage in the walkable Villa Heights neighborhood, this 480-sqft studio loft offers a surprisingly livable home base in Charlotte. I stayed here for about a week a few years ago, and I still remember how easy it was to settle in—it’s the kind of short-term rental that makes you think, I could actually live here.
Whether you're visiting for a quick getaway or posting up for a work trip, this clean and well-appointed guesthouse is quiet, comfortable, and functional—just a few blocks from bars, coffee shops, and the light rail into Uptown (Scroll to the end for a video walkthrough tour of this loft!).

From the moment I walked in, the space felt bigger than I expected. The layout is open but well-zoned—with the bed off to one side, a comfortable sitting area by the large front window, and a full-size dining table that doubled as a desk during the day.

The living area was great for winding down at night, with a soft couch, a flat-screen TV, and cable access that included HBO, Epix, and other premium channels. Natural light poured in every morning, giving the studio a fresh, airy feel that never felt cramped.

The kitchenette worked well for simple meals—there’s a microwave, coffee maker, sink, and a mini fridge. It wasn’t quite set up for extended cooking (I found myself wishing for a small cooktop and a larger fridge), but it was perfect for breakfast, snacks, and storing a few essentials.

One thing that made a big difference was the closet. It had real hang space, shelves, and enough room to unpack—a feature many tiny homes overlook, but one that made this stay more comfortable and organized.

The queen bed was soft and supportive, with fresh linens and a memory foam mattress. Even after long days exploring Charlotte, I slept well each night.

The bathroom was also clean and modern, with a combination shower/tub, a good amount of counter space, and fluffy white towels.

While the garage door beneath occasionally opened or closed, it was never loud or intrusive—just a brief sound that reminded me this was a real neighborhood, not an isolated Airbnb bubble.

Overall, this garage apartment really impressed me for how livable it was. With a few minor upgrades (a two-burner cooktop and bigger fridge would go a long way), it could easily work for longer stays. But even as-is, it’s one of those rare places that balances design, comfort, and location in under 500 square feet!
