In the heart of the Texas Hill Country sits the Llano Line Shack—a 255-sqft Depression-era tiny house that’s been lovingly restored into a cozy, single-level Airbnb. Built in the 1940s and sitting next to the old (now decommissioned) railroad tracks, this home carries the charm of its history while offering a functional, modern stay.
I stayed here with my dog, Jasper, and it was the perfect weekend getaway. The home felt incredibly livable thanks to its thoughtful layout, and the private fenced-in backyard was a highlight—complete with a picnic table and plenty of room for Jasper to run around. Watch a full video tour at the end!
The interior is open and inviting, with the sleeping area to the left as you enter and the living/dining corner tucked comfortably into the right. A small dining table for two sits by the window, creating a cozy space to eat meals or work with natural light streaming in.
The restoration has kept the spirit of the 1940s shack intact, with charming details throughout, while modern upgrades make it a very practical stay.
To the left of the entrance is the sleeping space, featuring a comfortable queen bed that made for a great night’s rest. What stood out here was the addition of a small desk/office area—a great spot to check emails or write while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of this historic tiny house.
Though compact, the kitchen comes with all the essentials you’d need for a short stay: an apartment-size fridge, cooktop, microwave, coffee maker, and thoughtful storage for basics. The Dutch door near the kitchen was one of my favorite features—it allowed a breeze to flow through the home while cooking and gave a peek outside to see what was happening in the yard.
The bathroom is compact yet functional, with a tiled shower, toilet, and plenty of hot water. It’s clean, well-designed, and makes efficient use of the available space without feeling cramped.
While the interior is charming, the outdoor space is truly what makes the Llano Line Shack special. Guests get a private, fully fenced 40' x 40' backyard with string lights overhead, a picnic table for dining outside, and plenty of room for pets or children to play. In the evenings, it became our favorite spot to unwind after exploring town—Jasper running around while I enjoyed dinner under the lights.
The Llano Line Shack perfectly blends historic character with modern comfort. Its single-level floor plan makes it accessible and easy to live in, while the fenced yard adds a level of privacy and relaxation that’s hard to find.
Whether you’re passing through Llano, exploring Enchanted Rock, or just looking for a quiet weekend away with your dog, this restored 1940s gem is worth booking.
