I love, love, love my Dyson cordless vacuum! It is an absolute game changer for cleaning the house and it tucks nicely under my couch. They also come with a bracket for mounting it to the wall or you could pull it apart and fit it into a drawer.
I find that because I am spending more of my time in such a small area, it does need to be cleaned more often. The good news is that it literally only takes me 5 minutes to vacuum the whole house—so easy!
I second Ashley in that we also LOVE our Dyson cordless vacuum cleaner! It is awesome with all of the accessories it comes with that make cleaning the tiny house so easy.
The house gets dusty very quickly! No more dragging around a corded vacuum or dustpan and brush! The parts it comes with reach up high to the ceiling and also reach into the awkward small areas of the tiny house!
The other product we couldn’t live without in the tiny house is our Showerdome above the shower. It’s a Perspex dome specially designed and installed above our shower which catches all the steam from the shower so you have very minimal moisture build up in the bathroom. It’s been amazing!
Going to have to echo the love for the Dyson cordless vacuum. We also really love our Whirlpool Low Profile Microwave and Oven Hood. It takes up about half of the vertical space of most full-sized microwaves, which gave us additional food storage over the microwave. Even if you don’t care about having a microwave, it is much smaller than most oven hoods out there. We also love cooking food in large batches, so rather than re-heating leftovers in the oven or stove, we can use our microwave which is much more energy efficient.
Easy. We love our air fryer. We wrote a whole review on our blog! I love this thing. It’s fast and diverse.
Tim and I love all things crunchy. Since we are no microwave lifers, we also needed a simple way to reheat leftovers. Air fryer wins again! We also love the dehumidifier in our bathroom (also recently reviewed). We struggle with moisture in the bathroom and it helps a lot.
It’s silly, because you can totally have one of these in a regular sized house, but I LOVE my electric kettle. I use it at least once a day. We got this beautiful and functional one from Amazon when we moved into the house and it has been amazing.
It has a fun little blue light that comes on when it’s heating up, and turns off when it’s ready. I like it because it’s quiet, so if I want tea and my husband is still sleeping, it won’t wake him up. Best $20 spent ever.
Our favorite small appliance is our Breville Smart Oven Air toaster oven. We opted for a propane cook top and a toaster oven in our house for all of our cooking needs. This means no microwave!
We thought ditching the microwave would be a much harder adjustment but we find that we actually love it! Everything we made before going tiny we can cook in the toaster oven or on the cook top. It has an air fry feature that we love using for sweet potato fries as well as a ton of custom settings for anything from pizza to cookies. It even works better than any full-size oven I’ve used in the past. It’s efficient, quick and cooks really evenly. I can’t say enough good things about it! It also gives me throwback feels to using an easy bake oven, who doesn’t love that?
Our Whirlpool fridge is another favorite small(ish) appliance. It’s an apartment-size fridge which is a great compromise between a mini fridge and a full-size fridge. We originally planned on having an under counter fridge only, but with some design changes we were able to fit in this fridge and I’m so glad we did! It’s much easier to access than an under the counter model, has a lot more room and it’s awfully pretty to boot.
For some smaller space-savers, we love Joseph Joseph products! They combine durability with compactness really well. Our favorite is this 9-piece nesting set that includes mixing bowls, colander, sieve and measuring cups.
Our favorite small appliance is our compact microwave combo oven (Bosch). It is smaller than a traditional oven and a little larger than a microwave, there are 2 shelves and I can do a roast on one shelf and vegetables on the other smaller one. It does everything—grilling, oven cooking, microwaving and combo, it’s brilliant. Roasts are significantly better than a traditional oven; you can achieve a nice and crispy skin and beautifully tender inside—and done in half the time.
My other favorite appliances are our 2-burner induction stove—we have not missed our larger 4-burner stove top. And we also included a dishwasher drawer, a must for us as we don’t like doing the dishes; who does? The drawer has been the perfect size for our family of 4. I empty it in the morning and fill throughout the day; it gets turned on in the evening when we go to bed. It's quiet too!
Not an appliance but we included an appliance cupboard for our toaster, kettle, blender etc. so we can hide them away and the benches stay clear, helpful for aesthetics. This also gives us a clear space for food prep. We also keep our bread and tea & coffee in here.
And our stick vacuum, that gets hidden in a cupboard under the stairs, where the batteries charge. I vacuum twice a day (takes about 3-4 minutes each time), due to the small space the floor does get dirty quickly, especially with little feet coming in and out.
So many. We're big on finding perfect products. They have to be beautiful enough to display (very important and often under-rated), perform really well without price inflation, and be built to last. We call them Holy Grail products.
A handful that come to mind:
It's maybe a little strange to live in a tiny house and give so much focus to products, but we think that when you find the right products—the ones that bring art into their design—you end up with little things all around that bring you inspiration. Over a lifetime, that experience can be invaluable.
